North Carolina Suboxone® Doctors and Clinics are Needed

Many states have seen the effects of the opioid crisis, however, North Carolina has seen it first hand, and in a major way.  According to the US Government, in 2017 opioid overdoses took the lives of over 1,900 people.  That is 19.8 deaths per 100,000 people in the population of NC.  For perspective on that statistic Colorado is almost half of that at 10.00 and Arizona is 13.5 per 100,000 people in the state’s population.  The largest increase in deaths due to opioids in NC is involving the synthetic opioid, fentanyl.  From 2013 to 2017 the state realized a 1007.76% increase in overdoses due to the synthetic opioids.  Many believe that this is because opioid suppliers are lacing heroin with fentanyl and not telling people.  This makes being addicted to opioid in North Carolina a truly deadly game of chance.

Thankfully, there is hope for those suffering.  Suboxone® (Buprenorphine/Naloxone) is available to people in the state and, when paired with addiction counseling, can remove cravings and block the effects of opioids on the body.  So how do you get Suboxone®  in North Carolina?  From a Suboxone®  doctor or clinic near you.

North Carolina Suboxone® Providers

According to SAMASHA.gov, there are 1,305 active Suboxone®  doctors in North Carolina.  When you compare this to the states like Nevada and Connecticut which have 341 and 881 doctors respectfully.  North Carolina is clearly fighting back against the opioid epidemic based on these numbers.  However, one major issue seen, not only in NC but around the country, is access to the care. For those living in rural parts of the state, access a Suboxone® doctor requires planning, driving, waiting, time off work or away from friends, and let’s not forget the cost for all of this.  This can make finding and maintaining a Suboxone®  program virtually impossible.  This lack of access to nearby Suboxone®  clinics or doctors is a major factor in the longevity and success of medication-assisted treatment of opioid addiction.  These barriers must be removed by either expansion or technology to provide access to care for everyone who is ready to accept it.

What Does Suboxone® Cost?

As with the rest of the country, the costs for Suboxone®  come in two areas.  The first is for the visit with a DEA licensed Suboxone®  Doctor or State licensed Suboxone®  clinic. The cost of each visit vary, however, most new patients are seen weekly to start and then eventually moved to a monthly meeting.  Each meeting roughly costs $75-$150 in the state of North Carolina.  As of recently, state funded Medicaid plans will also cover this cost.

The second area of cost is the purchase of Suboxone®.  If you are paying cash for Suboxone®, each pharmacy is different, although the manufacture does offer coupon on their website that can get the cost down below $1 per mg.  Another option is to opt for the generic Suboxone® (buprenorphine/naloxone).  This is, of course, up to your prescribing doctor, but is a great way dramatically lower costs of a Suboxone®  treatment program.
